Everything that crosses Aerun in a hurry crosses here.
Chapter on its way. This chapter downloads from the House M'ke relay as soon as you enter the region. Until then, here's a preview from Balic.

- Raam is built into the cliff in the northeast, where the highland meets the ocean.
- Population: forty thousand-odd inside, and as many again in the estates outside. The largest city on the continent, and famously relaxed about rules.
- House M'ke keeps to its fortified compound and runs its business from there, very patiently.
- Two harbors: deep-water piers on the ocean side below, and the silt quays on the shelf a thousand feet above, where the Long Reach comes in from Balic.
- The Ascent links them: switchback freight terraces cut into the rock, hoist towers, porter barracks, and homes carved right into the cliff. Raam's porters are organized and plentiful. Tip well.
In the region
- Raam: the great transfer city, climbing its own cliff.
- Blackguard: a north-coast waystop with a colorful name.
Getting there
- By the Long Reach: about 350 miles across the silt from the quays on top of Balic, five or six days by Guild skimmer convoy. No signal on the way.
- By road: 310 miles around the east side, by way of Gulg and Nibenay: about a tenday and a half.
