Salt View
Loud, unruly, and home to the best theater on Aerun.

A village on the eastern face of the Mekillot Mountains, founded by people who left their previous employment without giving notice.
At a glance
- Population: a few hundred ex-slaves of every race, run loosely by an ex-gladiator mul named Xaynon.
- Two businesses: the old one is raiding caravans on the Gulg and Nibenay roads. The new one is touring acting troupes, booked by wealthy merchants, who pay well and don't sneer.
- Status: officially it shouldn't exist. In practice the houses find it useful and the cities find it far away.
Good to know
- Catch a show. The troupes are superb: a generation of performers who survived the arena and decided they preferred an audience.
- Their biggest hit yet: late this summer the Principal Troupe staged the Fall of Yaramuke at the foot of Balic's Cochlea, the same night the porters' go-slow ended. The town hasn't stopped talking about it.
- No nobles, ever. Salt View won't perform for nobility at any price. Ask why and you'll get a long story and a longer drink.
- Hire or be robbed. On this stretch of road, a caravan either hires Salt View as its escort or gets robbed by Salt View. The town is refreshingly upfront about it.
