The Mekillot Mountains
A small range with a big reputation.

A compact range near the south coast, standing on its own between Balic's country and the eastern forest. Small next to the Ringing Mountains, and a lot more lively.
At a glance
- The name: from a distance the range looks like the humped shell of a mekillot, the enormous beasts that pull the Guild's argosies. Anyone who has seen both agrees.
- Size: short, and crossable in a day or two by the passes, which is exactly why the roads use it.
- Who's there: Salt View on the eastern face (raiders and actors), herders in the foothills, and whoever is using the caves this season.
Good to know
- The busiest robbery spot in the south. Caravans on the Gulg and Nibenay roads pass close by, and get robbed here more than anywhere else in the south. It's professional and rarely fatal: Salt View prefers cargo to casualties.
- Water lasts longer here. The passes hold water later into the dry season than the plain around them, which is why the routes come this way.
- Hire an escort. An escort out of Salt View costs about what losing your cargo would, and comes with better entertainment.
